Horse Boarding

All boarders must fill out our boarding contract and liability agreements, and supply us with a copy of the health certificate and Coggins if traveling from out of state. Check out our rate sheet for current prices.

The Basics

The basic arrangement at the RRX Barn is self-serve. Each stall comes thickly bedded in sand (no shavings allowed). The stalls each have one large water tub (or a heated one in winter) filled by the hose. In addition there is one large hay feeder provided for each stall. Muck buckets and manure forks are available for guests to clean their own stalls. You are to provide your own hay and feed. Stalls, water buckets and feeders are to be left clean after your use. There is a storage room you may keep horsey items during your stay. We also provide complementary parking space for your horse trailer. Check out our rate sheet for more info.

Amenities

We offer a covered arena and 3/4 mile of riding track on-site. We do not have a round pen or turn-outs for guest horses. There is a gate onto State Trust land that is leased out for horse grazing - but you can ride through if your horse is familiar with potentially meeting up with a small herd (generally geldings). You can also ride up our dead-end road to the utilities lines and ride out that way. Either way, you can access Deep Well Ranch, with vast riding trails. Or trailer your horse a mile up the street to the Williamson Valley Trailhead for generally well-marked, gorgeous mountain and valley trails.

Occupancy

You may rent one or both stalls with in-n-outs. If you choose to rent one stall, it is entirely possible the other stall may be rented out to another guest.

Depending on how well your horses get along, their size, and the time of year (weather permitting) we limit the number of horses we’ll house in the RRX Barn. We generally limit the stabling to either one horse per stall with corral (a 2-horse barn max) or 3 horses with the stables set up as a run in. At times we may bump it up to 2 horses sharing a stall and turnout (a 4-horse max).

Under special circumstances during our fair-weather months, we may be able to accommodate up to 3 horses sharing a stall and in-and-out, or 5 to 6 horses max sharing the stable as a run-in for day-use purposes, such as a horse clinic. To be at this maximum occupancy, your horses must be accustomed to close quarter herd living with one another.

In addition, under a Facilities Use Agreement - we may be able to provide additional day stalls and limited overnight stabling in our main barn.

Weather

Here is Prescott, we have 4 mild seasons, but sometimes our weather can be severe. We have plastic strip curtains hung above the stall doors, so horses can choose to come and go in any weather, but the interior of the stalls stay pretty much dry. You can close the horses in with lower doors, but the horses can still put their heads out between the strips to see what is going on. There are no upper doors per se.

Keep in mind that during the monsoon season – generally between the last week of June and the first 2 weeks of September (or thereabouts) we could have significant, torrential rainfall. Between Mid-March and late June, and mid-September through late November, our fair-weather months, we generally don’t get heavy precipitation. We can get snow anytime between late November and March.
